I’m fresh off an 8-6 week, none too impressed with myself but not horrified either considering what a strange year it’s turning out to be. The Browns over the Giants, really? Minnesota nearly losing to the Lions? Maybe I should start emplying an “opposite pick” seeing if I can nail the topsy turvy game of the week. We’ll give it a shot.
San Diego over Buffalo: I think SD found it’s mojo against the Pats last week. They need to go on a roll now or it’s going to be never, so I’m picking them to take it to Buffalo. Edwards should be back for Buff but I think they might be outgunned here.
Chicago over Minnesota: Chicago is coming off another crippling last minute loss and Minnesota is coming off a last minute win, but it was against the winless Lions so color me unimpressed. Minny might be formidable if they actually had a QB and Chicago seems to have possibly found a QB (still not a true believer in Beard Boy but he’s proving me wrong weekly). I’ll go with the Bears here.
Pittsburgh over Cincy: Ahhh another winless team stays winless. I thought Pittsburgh might be too beat up to contend this year but their win over Jax convinced me they’ll be around all year. As for the Bengals, Palmer’s out again I believe and nobody is stepping up there. They’re battling for #1 draft pick with the Lions (I think this is another battle they will lose).
Tennessee over KC: The only undefeated team should stay in that column this week, what with the toothless KC attack. They’ll shut down Larry Johnson with that smothering D and do enough to win on offense. Who’d have thought the Titans would be the last undefeated standing? I kind of love and hate this year all at the same time.
Dallas over St. Louis: I guess if you’re going to lose your starting QB, two starting CB’s and a running back, this is a good week to do it. The Rams rose up and defeated the Skins last week, I do not see lightning striking twice. Brad may not have a rocket arm but he’s a steady QB who’ll move you down the field. New acquisition Roy Williams could make things interesting, if only by causing TO to have another bitchfit about not getting the ball enough. Dallas should enjoy this week, things get worse after though.
Miami over Baltimore: Baltimore is being punished for me giving them a moment of faith. Miami has won two games and contended in the other once since installing their high school, anything goes offense. It’ll be close but I’ll give the Dolphins the edge at home and because I hate the Ravens again.
Giants over San Fran: Welcome back Old Eli Manning! Three atrocious picks that I saw against the Browns reminded me of early Eli, not awesome Eli from the end of last year through this year. I look to the Giants to bounce back big this week as the 9ers continue another mediocre season.
New Orleans over Carolina: Drew Brees is the only reason I’m going this way. After getting smacked around by the Bucs last week, Carolina should be in a bad mood and ready to battle. The Saints offense was finally decent, but that was of course against the Raiders, so I don’t think that counts. Should be a fun game, but I’m going with the team with the better offense here.
Houston over Detroit: Poor Detroit. Kitna is out for the year, they just traded Roy Williams away and they suck, possibly bad enough to go 0-16. A win is doable here, but it would defy my wishes. Plus, Sage is on the bench and Houston just got their first win. They have some decent players in Houston and should be better than they are, I expect them to take this game, there’s no reason they shouldn’t (which means they’ll probably lose to spite me, why do I make picks again?)
Jets over Oakland: And the Kiffinless era continues, with the new coach failing to notch a win. I bet Al Davis is excited. I don’t get it, if he’s so in love with Rob Ryan, the D coordinator, why didn’t he name him head coach? Anyway, Favre should enjoy picking on Oakland’s D.
Indy over Green Bay: In Manning I Trust. After last week, I shall not go against the Peyton factor again. Wayne and Harrison woke up and Addai remembered how to run. GB’s defense took a real step back from last season and their offense isn’t scaring anybody these days. What happened to Ryan Grant? Anyway, I think the Colts looked around and realized the AFC can be had and they’ll go after it.
Washington over Cleveland: I will be at this game, so it would be wise for the Skins not to continue to screw me over weekly. And if they lose, I promise to pick them every single week in order to keep making them lose. Reverse mojo, I will work it. The Browns looked good on Monday night, we’ll see if it was a one time shot or if they’ve finally gotten in sync on offense.
Tampa Bay over Seattle: Seattle continues to be the walking wounded and Tampa played their best game of the year on Sunday. I look to them to continue the momentum against a beaten up team. Garcia is the answer at QB and Gruden seems to realize that. Graham blocking for Dunn led to 115 yards rushing by the little man last week, hope to see that again. I think Hasselbeck is going to be out of this game as well. Tampa should win this one.
Denver over New England: I think the Cassel factor is going to keep NE out of the playoffs at this point. The defense is not very good and the offense is not good enough to make up for it like they were last year. Denver’s offense is good, their D is not. Could be a high scoring game but Denver comes out on top.
Opposite Pick: KC over Tennessee. If the 1-4 Chiefs knocked off the 5-0 Titans, that would be the wild one of the week, so we’ll see if the chaos continues and that happens.
Last Week: 8-6
Season Record: 50-37
